Labyrinth Project update
A huge thank you to Cheryl Lisin from the Friends of the Lost Coast, as well as to all the other great volunteers who came out on Thursday, March 28th, to help bring the Lost Coast Labyrinth closer to completion.
Cheryl helped direct the weeding (so we did not remove native plants that we wanted to keep), but also provided native plants to spread out on the 4 berms surrounding the Labyrinth. In addition, Steve Soderquist, Nina Jackson, April Piercey, Jerry Jackson, Chris & Wendy Bell, and Mark Mitchell all helped plant and pull a lot of weeds. Weeds never came out any easier with all the rain!!!!
We planted yarrow, clarkia, gum plant, poppies, iris, phacelia, flowering current, and red elderberry. These are all native plants and should thrive on the site.
SCARF thanks the whole community for their support and contributions throughout this project. We have had many work parties, starting with breaking ground, setting the redwood pole, spreading wood chips, making the pathways, making and installing the benches, and finally planting the berms. We are truly lucky to live in a community that thrives on volunteering.
Soon, the pavers that the community sponsored will be installed at the two entrances to the Labyrinth along with hand carved entrance signs.
The Labyrinth is located on Upper Pacific between Sea View and Lower Pacific.
See more detailed info about this project here, and download the Lost Coast Labyrinth flier here.
Your tax-deductible donations are still welcomed and needed for the project, and can be mailed to SCARF, 1060 Upper Pacific, Shelter Cove, CA 95589.

Who are We?
The Shelter Cove Arts and Recreation Foundation (SCARF) was established in 2012 with the mission of improving the quality of life in Shelter Cove by offering art and recreational experiences. We have a volunteer board of directors, and we plan to hold one public meeting a year to gather input relating to arts and recreation in our community.
There are no membership dues. All children's classes are free of charge, and adult classes may include a material fee.
Our Accomplishments
Since our inception, we have developed a softball field, three nature and exercise trails, an Art Gallery, and sponsored the Plein Air at the Lost Coast event for three consecutive years from 2014 - 2016.
In 2019 we partnered with the Bureau of Land Management to sponsor the Artist in Residence Program. The program has been ongoing since 2019, however due to COVID, we were unable to host the event in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The program resumed in 2023. Click here for more info.
In 2022 the Children's Garden and Playground was completed.
In 2023, we broke ground on the Labyrinth project.
Each year, we offer several children and adult workshops, including photography, electronic kit building, cooking, tile mosaic, and a Labor of Love Quilt show.
How can you Help?
SCARF welcomes your input, ideas, involvement, and volunteer participation.
Please contact SCARF via email to share suggestions for new arts and recreation activities.
Donations are gratefully accepted, and can be mailed directly to SCARF, 1060 Upper Pacific Drive, Shelter Cove, CA 95589.
A receipt for your donation will be mailed to you, and donations are tax deductible.
SCARF is a tax exempt, 501c3 California Non-profit foundation and all donations to it are fully tax deductible
